The Carrboro Bicycle Coalition organized the first “open streets” event in 2013. We wanted to replicate what others have done around the world, starting in Bogotá, Colombia: let people take over the streets from cars and traffic. The town of Carrboro has continued the tradition. Somehow we have missed the rain every year!
Carrboro will block motor vehicles on Weaver Street from noon to 4pm. The community is invited to dance, do yoga, ride their bikes, climb a rock wall, make smoothies on a bike blender, and participate in many other activities in a public space that not many ever thought of as a place to partake in recreation.
Come join us!
